Alebrije History

So How Are They Made?

It all begins with a piece of copal of wood.

All of the carving is done by hand, using minute tools and blades.

After the piece has been carved, it is left out to dry for a few days or a few weeks, depending on the size of the alebrije.

The alebrije is then painted with acrylic paint or aniline dyes, a process which can take days to months depending on the intricacy of the piece.

After this laborious process, the alebrije is finally ready.

Each alebrije is a unique artisan one-of-a-kind creation that can never be replicated.

Now they just need your help finding a home!
